NIKE PRO RIVAL: A BUSTY GALS BEST FRIEND.

9.8.15

I've always been the one of 'those girls' who doubles up when it come to sports bras because as a petty busty girl- I'm a 34G- I've never had a supportive enough one. Admittedly, this is partly my fault as I've always gone for appearance rather than functionality. So I'd wear my normal bra and then put a sports bra over the top and although uncomfortable this had worked reasonably well for me until around June time when I started training for my first ever 10k and was running 3/4 times a week as well as cross-training at the gym 4-5 times a week too. Now I've always been a pretty active/sporty person but running is very high impact and I found that after a few weeks the friction from running against my bra was actually tearing the skin on the inside underside of my boobs ( hope that makes sense). I actually have some pretty nasty scarring from it and once my bra was actually drawing blood It was time to invest in a new high support bra.

Now my go to brand for any active-wear is Nike, I actually feel like I'm betraying them if I buy any other brand, so naturally I jumped online and had a little browse on their website where they have a handy bra guide and calculator. After some research I decided on the Nike Pro Rival bra which is described as a sports bra that 'offers superior wire-free support, with a compression-moulded fit that adds definition and helps control bounce. The sweat-wicking material helps keep you dry and the soft, comfortable design lets you focus on your workout'.
Also it actually has proper bra sizing, none of this small medium large nonsense which, back me up here people, is terrible for girls with bigger boobs. I followed the bra measuring guide, inputted my measurements and it gave me a recommended size.

So what's my verdict? After about a month of usage I can confidently say that the Nike Pro Rival bra is 100% worth all the hype surrounding it and is a brilliant sports bra for pretty much anything at the gym and running. I've worn it for Road running, treadmill running, spin, yoga, strength training, interval training, circuit training, I could go on but you get the gist. It's so comfortable and is incredibly supportive. The only thing I would say is that after reading reviews people were complaining about the difficulties they had getting the bra off, which is a problem I did encounter but after a few goes I figured out a pretty simple one hand out first, shimmy technique that works really well for me.
The Nike Pro Rival Bra is available in a variety of colours and patterns and I will definitely be investing in a few more once I have some money.
For all you girls out there that need a high support comfortable Bra I would definitely recommend this bra. Next on my list is the Nike Pro Hero sports bra which is pretty similar to the Rival but has adjustable straps and a normal bra hooking system at the back. The coral colour is actually on sale at the moment so head over to the Nike website to have a little look.

Have any of you tried either the Hero or Rival and if so what were your experiences? Do any of you have any sports bra or even just bra related horror stories? Let me know in the comments.

  11. I love Nike products too! I recently bought the sports crop top but I'm starting to think I should I have bought the Rival bra. It certainly looks like it offers a lot more support! I think I bought mine purely due to aesthetic than to practicality lol but oh well I will know what to buy in the future, so thanks! - x

  12. THIS POST GIVES ME LIFE. Finally someone who understands the struggle. I know exactly what you mean about the tearing too - it gets ridiculously sore and I had no idea these even existed so thank you so much! No more stupid flowery s/m/l bras rubbish.
Plus I love nike too & I love having a great gym kit. It really does motivate me that bit more.
Lovely post & I love your blog! xxxx

yes, how do these people expect us to have sports bras in generic sizing that is supportive enough, it's just not on!
I'm obsessed with gym kit at the minute, forever shopping for new bits!

  13. I love this post, and congrats on training for your first 10K!! That is seriously so awesome. Coming from a marathoner, you have no idea how happy I am for you! :)

I really should be investing in some quality activewear, and Nike has always been a go-to brand for me as well. I usually just get my sports bras from Forever 21, but the thing about them is that they're all made of cotton!! Ahh! Totally not breathable! I'm def going to check this one out, thanks so much for the recommendation ;)
